My Trapper
Don't know if it's been done or not, but this is what I usually use. Works pretty good for me *shrug* give it a try I suppose.
Ranger/X
Level: 20
Expertise: 13 (10+3)
Wilderness Survival: 16 (12+4)
Marksmanship: 9 (8+1)
Flame Trap (Wilderness Survival)
When Flame Trap is triggered, every second (for 3 seconds total), all nearby foes are struck for 31 fire damage and set on fire for 3 seconds. Flame Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Energy:4.8 Cast:2 Recharge:20
Barbed Trap (Wilderness Survival)
When Barbed Trap is triggered, all nearby foes take 68 piercing damage, become Crippled, and begin Bleeding for 28 seconds. Barbed Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Energy:7.2 Cast:2 Recharge:20
Dust Trap (Wilderness Survival)
When Dust Trap is triggered, every second (for 5 seconds total), all nearby foes are Blinded for 10 seconds and take 26 earth damage. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted. Dust Trap ends after 90 seconds.
Energy:12 Cast:2 Recharge:30
Throw Dirt (Expertise)
Target touched foe and foes adjacent to your target become Blinded for 13 seconds.
Energy:2.4 Cast:1 Recharge:45
Troll Unguent (Wilderness Survival)
For 10 seconds, you gain Health regeneration +10.
Energy:2.4 Cast:3 Recharge:10
Oath Shot [Elite] (Expertise)
If Oath Shot hits, all your other skills are recharged. If it misses, all your skills are disabled for 10 seconds. (50% miss chance with Expertise attribute of 7 or less)
Energy:4.8 Cast:0 Recharge:20
Whirling Defense (Expertise)
For 18 seconds, you have 75% chance to "block" attacks. Whenever you block a projectile in this way, adjacent foes take 10 piercing damage.
Energy:4.8 Cast:0 Recharge:60
Apply Poison (Wilderness Survival)
For 24 seconds, foes struck by your physical attacks become Poisoned for 16 seconds.
Energy:7.2 Cast:2 Recharge:12
For equipment I'd highly suggest the energy set so you can have more energy. The other trappers that use a staff can go ahead and do what you want, but personally with 13 expertise I find energy management extremely easy. As far as a bow goes nothing is better then the rare bow Stinger. Works wonders for me. Hope yas like it.
Also you can swap out Troll Ungent with Healing Spring. I use Troll Ungent when solo and Healing Spring when grouped, but you can use them for either. Just depends on which you prefer.

i'd much rather have my 8 points into Inspiration for Mantra of Resolve then having it into Marksmanship
and btw... the Stinger is crap and is definately not rare

Blind+Whirling. Only interrupts you should get are probably just stuff like interrupt hexes or something, but as far as attacks go they won't touch you. It's awesome for this build because of the poison duration bonus on it. Sense your going to be in whirling non-stop it is a stance so that gives you the 15% dmg bonus. Then other attribute isn't of much importance. If people wanted they could go with a Posioners Flatbow of Fortitude or something. It's up to you. As far as Mantra of Resolve goes i've found several times for it to be poorly manageable. Only way for it to really work with my build is sub out marks for insp and replace apply poison. Doing that though means if you have 2 stances. Can you alternate those? No the recharge is to much of a difference and can cause problems. Can you drop your defense? Sure, but why would you want to risk it. After all your not sporting heavy duty armor to begin with. I designed him to be purely ranger without outside class influence. To me the build works wonders and now that i've done some PvE tests hes very very powerful for solo, group, and farming. Bleeding+Poison+Fire = pain and can counter HP regens. If you want changes to it by all means go ahead, but this is what works for me and I hope some of yas find it useful aswell

Just because someone's blind doesn't mean they cant hit you. All it takes is one attack to get through to stop you. Also, I agree with Valerius. I believe mantra of resolve is a MUST for a trapper. You'd be better off with a staff with energy mods than the stinger too.

NO WAY! Oath shot is a must if you trap, Recharching those skills allowing to lay more traps in a shorter time far outweighs the damage potential from spike trap (which ain't that hot imo)

nope, lay the all traps first, then pull them in, much more better and safer.

IMHO I like combat trapping more then pulling them into it.. atleast with combat trapping your guaranteed to hit all of them. If you pull them they almost ALWAYS form a single file line and only effects the first and maybe second mob. Pulling them is good for things like UW ONLY.. Solo PvE you need combat trapping and the slow recharges can get you killed considering there is always that chance of an interrupt no matter what you do. Sure could use mantra of resolve to fix that, but u lose ur defense and it's not energy efficient for us.
I don't really care anyway I redesigned back to my pet farming build and am happily taking on almost every mino (like 3 or so are to much of a hastle to aggro) in elonas reach. I may release my design for my pet farming soon, but from the looks of it something similar is already posted except mine actually works lol.

yeah Oath Shot {E} is better for solo farming imo... now that enemies flee from the AoE of traps they don't take much dmg... so u have to be able to lay ur traps will their attacking and keep them recharged

I wouldn't say the Stinger is crap, even though it's dirt cheap, but it wouldn't be my first choice in bows. Elswyth's Long bow is however a good bit better IMHO, though I love my Gold Poisoners Longbow of Defense (+15%^50, lengthen poison, armor +5)
Anyways, as for trapping, I personally prefer this build (though admittedly, I've never solo farmed with it)
Spike Trap {E}
Dust Trap
Flame Trap
Barbed Trap
Serpent's Quickness
Mantra of Resolve
Troll Unguent
Rez Sig (replace with healing spring if solo farming tho I guess)
Basically, Flame Trap or Dust Trap could be used last to cause enemies to flee a bit if there is any downtime when skills are recharging. If they are attacking you, healing spring and Troll should do fine to regen health

i think everyone that say oath shot is a must for solo trapping in pve need to try to made use of the enemy "fleeing from aoe dmg" AI.
Just think of it, if the monster cant flee, they are dead. usually all the monster will just stand there and "trying to run" and not attacking you. making your life much simple.
with this good old stacking traps method, i can kill all the trolls in the first section of droknar ice cave under 2 minutes (including time walking to the cave and setting the traps).
- edit -
just want to say the sucess rate of this is 99.9%. the only time it fail is when u got surround by troll when pulling

So, you did this a thousand times and only failed once? Hehe, j/k, looks like ur build works fine. I'll have to try solo farming with my ranger sometime...
